Token Usage & Top-Up
Easy Chat is billed based on token consumption. Tokens are used each time an agent processes a message — by the LLM generating a response.
Go to Analytics → Token Usage to monitor your balance.
What are tokens
Tokens are units of text processed by the language model. Both the input (visitor message + knowledge base context) and the output (agent response) consume tokens.
As a rough guide: 1,000 tokens ≈ 750 words of combined input and output.
Free tier
Every new organization receives 500,000 tokens at no charge. This is enough for hundreds of conversations depending on message length.
Monitoring your balance
The Token Usage page shows:
- Progress bar — your remaining balance since the last top-up, shown as an absolute number
- History chart — a bar chart of all top-ups and balance changes over a selected date range
Use the date range filters (From / To) to zoom into a specific period. The chart shows two values per event:
- Top Up (green) — tokens added
- Balance (blue) — balance at that point in time
Purchasing more tokens
Pricing: $6 per 1,000,000 tokens. No monthly fee, no subscription.
To top up:
- Send an email to [email protected] requesting a top-up and specifying the amount
- You’ll receive a payment link — payment is processed via the Teachable platform
- After payment is confirmed, tokens are credited to your organization within 24 hours by the Easy Chat team
Tokens do not expire after purchase.
Token consumption tips
To get the most out of your tokens:
- Keep documents focused and concise — large documents increase context size per query
- Use specific agent descriptions and routing examples to avoid unnecessary clarifying question rounds
- Review Chat History to identify long or looping conversations that consume more tokens than expected
